Curtis William Mumford, 61

BISHOPVILLE, Md. - Curtis William Mumford, CPA, of Bishopville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008. He was 61.

Curtis graduated from Selbyville High School.

He then graduated from the University of Baltimore with a degree in accounting and opened his CPA office in Selbyville, Del.

He truly loved his work as a CPA and was active in the business for 40 years, serving clients in Maryland and Delaware.

Curtis was also involved in various real estate activities in Maryland and Delaware.

He was a member of St. Paul's-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Ocean City, and a former member of the Selbyville Lions Club.

He loved working on the landscaping at his home and enjoyed the company of his Labrador retriever, Ollie.

Curtis was preceded in death by his father, William C. Mumford, in 1997.

Curtis is survived by his loving wife, Marlene Holland Mumford; his mother, Margaret H. Mumford of Selbyville; a son, Timothy C. Mumford and his wife Janel of Selbyville; a daughter, Tara M. Benton and her husband Barry of Houston, Del.; two grandchildren, Tyler and Allison Benton; two sisters, Linda M. Becker and her husband Clint of Phoenix and Cindy K. Mumford and her husband Rodney Wildermuth of Columbia; a stepson, Barry E.R. Mariner and his wife Jeannie of Berlin; two step-grandchildren, Brittany and Ethan Mariner; his mother-in-law, Mary Belle Holland of Ocean City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Paul's-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 3rd Street and North Baltimore Avenue, Ocean City, where friends and family may call after 1:30 p.m.

Father David Dingwall will officiate.

Family and friends may call at Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., Frankford, Del., from 5-6 p.m. Thursday.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Curtis' name to the Bishopville Fire Department, P.O. Box 350 Bishopville, MD 21813; or to Coastal Hospice at the Lakes, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.
