Constance Marie Johnson

(Gill) Johnson, 94 SUDLERSVILLE, Md. - Constance Marie Johnson, of Sudlersville, died on Dec. 15, 2011. She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on July 11, 1917, the daughter of the late Franklin Gill and Myrtle Elizabeth Nebicker (Young) Gill. Connie grew up in Pennsylvania and during the 2nd World War worked as a keypunch operator for RCA Victor. She met Earl Johnson, and they married on June 21, 1947. They moved to Maryland in 1957. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker, an accomplished seamstress, and a wonderful cook and baker. She was very artistic, enjoyed painting, and for several years operated a ceramic shop. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed gardening and growing plants and flowers. She was active in the PTA and the American Legion Auxiliary. Connie was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Earl; a daughter, Jane Anne Kerns; and a brother, Robert Gill. She is survived by a son and two daughters, Timothy G. Johnson and his partner Dennis Hager of Millington, Mary E. McGinnis and her husband Bob of Chestertown, and Mildred "Millie" Strong and her husband Tot of Rock Hall, Md.; grandchildren include Raymond, Thomas and Matthew Strong of Rock Hall; Raymond and his wife Jessica's three daughters, Lucy, Rachel and Reese, are Connie's great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 101 N. Cross Street, Chestertown. Interment will be in the Church Garth. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Andrews Chapel, P.O. Box 38, Church Hill, MD 21623 and Chester River Manor, Chestertown, MD 21620. Arrangement by Fellows, Helfenbein and Newman.
