Clarence Henry 'Sonny' Acree Sr., 67

GREENSBORO, Md. - Clarence Henry "Sonny" Acree Sr., of Greensboro, was called home on Thursday, May 8, 2008, to be with the Lord. He was 67.

Sonny was born March 10, 1941, to the late Dorothy Marie Acree-Murray and the late Thomas Brown. He was the stepson of the late Irvin Eugene Murray.

He graduated from Loockerman High School and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps.

After serving his tour of duty in the military he moved to New York and became employed by Xerox Corp. for several years before retiring.

Sonny was united in holy matrimony to Vera Brown-Acree on Dec. 16, 1978, and to this union two children were born, Clarence H. Acree Jr. and Christina L. Acree.

He resided in Caroline County for several years after returning from New York and then decided to venture out again and this time he moved to Gardena, Calif., where he resided with his family and became employed with Northrop Grumman and retired after 20 years of service.

Sonny attended Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church in California.

After the death of his parents he made his home in Greensboro.

He became a member of New Hope Baptist Church and was a devoted usher.

Sonny was also a dedicated member of the Loockerman Alumni Association, the American Legion Mannie Scott Post 193, and the NAACP.

He was a devoted and loving husband and father.

Sonny was preceded in death by one daughter, Vanessa Acree; two sisters, Elizabeth Nichols and Pauline Butler; and two brothers, James Acree and Thomas H. Brown Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his legacy his loving wife of 29 years, Vera Brown-Acree; two sons, Clarence Acree Jr. and his wife Terri of Columbia, S.C., and Clarence Gould of Smyrna, Del.; one daughter, Christina Acree of Greensboro; five sisters, Deborah Turner (Melvin) of Denton, Esther Nichols (James) of Harrington, Del., Sandra Brown-Robinson of Union City, Calif., Sharon Brown of Denton and Joyce Hopkins of Dover, Del.; two brothers, George Brown of Denton and Gregory Brown of Cambridge; a mother-in-law, Laura Green of Denton; one brother-in-law, Dale K. Brown (Tina) of Greensboro; two aunts; one uncle; six great-uncles; two great-aunts; three devoted friends, Bobby Raisin, Earl Truxon and Keith Wisher; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Replanted Zion United Methodist Church, Ridgely, where friends may call two hours prior to the service and from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Burial will be in Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery.
