Dover - Mrs. Clara Anita Walker Washington was born Feb. 9, 1925, departed this life Feb. 16, 2016. She married James Edward Washington on Nov. 25, 1949 in Lexington, Ky. To that union was born two sons, Reginald Edward Washington and James Clarence Washington. Clara graduated from Louisville Municipal College and the Atlanta University School of Social Work. She was employed in several different positions with the State of Delaware. The Washington Family moved to Dover in 1963 and joined Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church. There, Clara volunteered her services in many capacities and was very involved in the community. She is survived by her two sons, Reginald E. Washington and James C. Washington of Dover; a sister-in-law, Elva Davis of Lexington, Ky.; extended family, the daughter she never had, Florence Goldsborough of Dover; goddaughter, Claudette Smith; Shirley and Bennie Smith; godson, Keith Martin; and many nephews, nieces and friends. Celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24th at Mt Zion A.M.E. Church 101 Queen Street Dover, Del. There will be a viewing before the service from 9 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a AKA Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. All services have been entrusted to Bennie Smith Funeral Home 717 West Division Street Dover, DE 19904.
