Charlotte Viola Brummell, 75

SEAFORD - With the setting of the sun Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, God quietly and gently drew the shades of the life journey of Charlotte Viola Brummell, who peacefully slipped away at the Seaford Center after a long illness. She was 75.

Charlotte was born Feb. 17, 1932, in Federalsburg, Md., the baby of eight siblings born to Fred Harrison Brummell and Emily Harriett Magee.

She attended and graduated from Lockerman High School, Denton, Md., class of 1949.

In a previous marriage to the late Alford J. Johnson, Charlotte was blessed with four children.

At an early age she joined Zion United Methodist Church of Federalsburg, and later moved her membership to John Wesley United Methodist Church of Holland Mission, Federalsburg.

Charlotte was employed for the clam house and Lafayette Pharmaceutical for 15 years, both in Easton, Md.

Before her health failed, she was a very dedicated and caring private sitter for the elderly.

In 1997 she became ill and moved to Seaford to be near her children.

When her health allowed, Charlotte attended the New Zion United Methodist Church of Laurel with her daughter, Shirley.

She was a devoted companion to Frank Nichols for more than 32 years, and they both enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Charlotte was a very kind and loving person with a wonderful, caring personality.

Even during her illness, she loved people and had a glowing, radiant smile that lit up the world around her.

Very strong-willed, sickness for many years may have slowed Charlotte, but it didn"t get her down.

She loved to sing and play board games with her children. Her favorite game was Trouble.

Charlotte loved and adored her pet poodle, Curley, whom she cared and cherished for 15 years.

She was preceded in death by six siblings, Hilda, Thomas, Roland, James, Oliver and Dorothy.

She is survived by four children, Alford Tyrone Johnson, Shirley (Bruce) Jones, Anthony (Cheryl) Johnson, and Shirvon Johnson, all of Seaford; her grandchildren, Sherman Sharpe Jr. (Garnetta) of Red House, Va., Alford Tyrone Johnson of Seaford, Charles Douglas Sharpe of Las Vegas, Anthony B. Johnson (Shawanda) of District Heights, Md., and Jessica E. Johnson of Salisbury, Md.; four great-grandchildren, DruAnna, Aniyah and Ashlyn, all of Seaford, and Dwayne Johnson of Atlanta, Ga.; a devoted sister, Helen Hubbard (James) of Preston, Md.; a very caring and devoted niece, Brenda Hubbard of Baltimore; and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends of Virginia Crest, where she resided.

A viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening in Church of God, Stein Highway, Seaford. Services will be noon Saturday in the church, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home.
