ANDERSON, S.C. - Charlena Tanner Murdock, 73, of Anderson, formerly of Dover, Del., wife of Sammy D. Murdock, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson. Born in April 1, 1936, in Hayesville, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Charles Jackson and Lula Belle Ledford Tanner. She worked in furniture sales and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Anderson. Survivors include her husband, Sammy D. Murdock of the home; two daughters, Teressa Lynn Collins of Virginia, and Debra Bernice Taylor and husband, Glenn of Anderson; one son, Phillip Goodman Murdock and wife, Elaina of Greensboro, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Jason Collins, Charlena Ann Taylor, Zachary Louis Taylor, Alison Marie Taylor, Katherine Lynn Taylor, Madison Lane Murdock, and Laney Tanner Murdock; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Fred Tanner and wife, Wanda of Hertford, N.C. Funeral services will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Paul Frey. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery, Hayesville, N.C. The family is at the residence, 110 Langwell Drive, Anderson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Children's Home Alumni Association, c/o The Development Office, 1001 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104. Arrangements by Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, Anderson.
