CLAYTON - Charles L. "Chuck" Fambach of Clayton died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, in his home. He was 67.
Mr. Fambach was born April 28, 1939, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Charles and Mary (Penick) Fambach.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of 22 years, serving on the USS Ranger CV-61, USS Clifton Sprague FFG-16 and USS Estocin FFG-15. He retired in 1996 as a petty officer first class.
Mr. Fambach lived in Linden, N.J., for 18 years and moved to Clayton in 2001.
He will be remembered as someone with a strong faith and enjoyed life to the fullest, who enjoyed helping others and did not worry about tomorrow.
He enjoyed traveling, crosswords, playing cards, computer games, watching sports and going to casinos. He was also known as a "cookie monster."
Mr. Fambach was a member of the Woodbridge, N.J., Elks, St. Polycarp Parish, Smyrna, the St. Vincent DePaul Society, the Community of Shalom, the Brother Vincent Council of the Knights of Columbus, the Vietnam Veterans of America and the USS Ranger CV-61 Reunion Association. He also served as a prison advocate serving the needs of prisoners.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Lillian G. Fambach; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Patricia "Pat" and Bob Callahan of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Irene and Harry Wallum of Succasunna, N.J.; two aunts, Kay Brand of Pennsburg, Pa., and Irene Kubasch, of Conway, S.C.; and a nephew and his wife, Robert and Robin VanBrunt of Sparta, N.J.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in St. Polycarp Catholic Church, 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna, where friends may call one hour earlier in the parish hall.
Burial with full Naval military honors will be at sea at a later date.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice Inc., 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901; or Hope Lodge of the American Cancer Society, 636 W. Lexington St., Baltimore, MD 21201.
