Charles Grindel Leight, 83

MILLINGTON, Md. - Charles Grindel Leight of Millington, formerly of Rock Hall, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, in his daughter" s home, Millington. He was 83.

Mr. Leight was born in Baltimore, son of the late Clifton R. and Florence (Luken) Leight.

He worked for 23 years at the Glenn L. Martin Co., Baltimore, before moving to Rock hall in 1965. He then set up the purchasing department at Kent and Queen Anne"s Hospital, where he served as purchasing agent and consultant until 1989.

Mr. Leight was baptized as one of Jehovah"s Witnesses in 1972, and served as an elder in the Chestertown congregation until his death. He loved teaching the Bible to others and was an avid reader of it himself. His sincere desire was for everyone to take the time to read the Bible and learn about Jehovah God and His son, Jesus Christ.

He loved his family dearly, and enjoyed gardening, crabbing and playing the snare drum.

Mr. Leight grew up in the swing era and loved listening to Benny Goodman, the Glenn Miller Orchestra and Lawrence Welk.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Katherine (Brooks) Leight, in 2000; a son, Herbert James Leight; and a brother, James William Leight.

He is survived by a sister and a brother-in-law, Alma L. and Douglas Stroms of Fallston; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Clifton B. and Beth Leight of Georgetown, Del., and Charles L. and Beverly Leight of Chestertown; a daughter and a son-in-law, Carol G. and Jim Alexander of Millington; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandsons.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah"s Witnesses, 2020 McGinnes Road, Chestertown.

Burial will be private.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Chestertown Congregation of Jehovah"s Witnesses, 301 Red Lion Branch Road, Millington, MD 21651.

Arrangements by Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Millington.
