Charles Edwin Hood, 78

LEWES - Charles Edwin Hood of Lewes passed away early Tuesday, May 15, 2007, after a brief illness. He was 78.

Charlie is remembered with love by his wife of 54 years, Jane; three daughters, Linda, Pamela and Melissa; and 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Kevin.

Born in Rushville, Ind., Charlie graduated from Purdue University with a degree in electrical engineering. He pursued a career with General Electric and the U.S. Government, focusing on manned and unmanned space flight missions. Charlie retired from the Central Intelligence Agency in 1988 and moved with his wife from Potomac, Md., to Lewes. There he served on the Board of Public Works for many years and was an active member of the Bethel United Methodist Church.

Charlie was a most loyal husband, father and friend; an animal lover and protector; a tireless worker in his beautiful home and garden; a beloved charmer and prankster; an impeccable gentleman; and a passionate student of a world whose beauties and mysteries he always found fresh and glorious. Charlie's faith in God endowed him with a generosity of spirit which led him to assume the best in everyone.

A celebration of his life will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 W. Fourth St., Lewes.

Please omit flowers. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A St., Wilmington, DE 19801; or to Bethel Christian Preschool, 129 W. Fourth St., Lewes, DE 19958.

Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
