SEAFORD - Charles Edward Smith Jr. departed this life on July 27, 2007, in Seaford. He was 18.
He was born in Cambridge, Md., on Sept. 14, 1988, to Charles Edward Smith Sr. and the late Geraldine E. Cannon.
C.J., as he was affectionately known, completed his secondary education in the Seaford School District.
He was a member of the Seaford Senior School class of 2007.
While attending Seaford High, C.J. was an active part of the Navy JROTC Program, the basketball team, the Western Sussex Boys & Girls Club and the Department of Parks & Recreation athletic programs.
In addition to sports, he took pride in writing poetry under the guidance of Pastor Arthur Doakes.
In school, C.J. received continued support from Principal Clarence Davis and teacher Terrence Moore.
He was employed at Arby"s of Seaford and later at McDonald"s of Bridgeville while in school.
Until recently, C.J. had strong desire to enter the U.S. Navy, but had decided to become a correctional officer.
He was raised in the First Love Ministries under Apostle Patricia Hercules and the Williams Chapel Church under Pastors Charles W. Smith Jr. and Sr.
In addition to attending Sunday School on a regular basis, C.J. was a member of the Youth Choir and the Mass Choir.
He shared a special bond with his mother, Geraldine Cannon, who preceded him in death.
In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Harrington and Rosalie Robinson, and Clemon Smith; and his step-grandparents, Albert and Ethel Weal.
He leaves to cherish his memory his father and stepmother, Charles and Alberta Smith; two sisters, Shamora Hopkins and Dajaunaira Weal; his grandmother, Mary E. Smith of Bridgeville; seven uncles, Marvin Smith and his wife, Gloria of Greenwood, James Smith and his wife,Viola, Clemon Smith, Jr. and his wife, Brenda, Howard Smith and his wife, Betty, Eugene Smith, and Darnell Smith, all of Bridgeville, and Harrington Robinson Jr. of Denton, Md.; two aunts, Beverly Robinson and her husband, Nathaniel of Hurlock, Md., and Brenda Smith of Bridgeville; eight step-aunts and eight step-uncles; three special cousins, Latasha Smith, Latasia Smith, and Tiffany Lamontagne; a very special friend, Jalissa Cannon; and a host of cousins and friends.
A viewing will be held on from 5-9 p.m. Friday in the Williams Chapel Church, Bridgeville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodbridge Senior High School, Bridgeville, with a viewing two hours prior.
Interment will be in Washington Cemetery, Bridgeville.
