Charles E. 'Bricktop' Chaffinch, 73
BRIDGEVILLE - Charles E. "Bricktop" Chaffinch of Bridgeville died Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 73.
Mr. Chaffinch was born in Bridgeville on May 19, 1934, to Alva W. and Winnie (Truitt) Chaffinch.
He was a truck driver, driving for Service Trucking Co. in his earlier years, and later for Perdue, where he retired in 1997.
Mr. Chaffinch was a member of the Seaford Moose Lodge.
He enjoyed gardening and tinkering with vehicles.
Mr. Chaffinch loved all types of animals, especially dogs, and he loved to go to the fair to see his grandchildren's animals that they were displaying.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alva Chaffinch Jr.; and a daughter, Ida Marie Layton.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ann (Watson) Chaffinch; a daughter, Anna Neal and her husband John of Bridgeville; a son, Charles L. Chaffinch and his wife Trudy of Bridgeville; seven grandchildren, Brandy Givans and her husband Gary, Sgt. Douglas Neal of the U.S. Marine Corps/Delaware National Guard, Melissa Layton and her friend Ray Anderson, U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Lyle Neal, Alyce Naples and her husband Bill, Joshua Chaffinch and Matthew Chaffinch; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Chaffinch and his wife Dorothy of Orlando, Fla.; a half brother, Drexel Chaffinch and his wife Esther of Harrington; and his nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Fleischauer Funeral Home, 48 W. Market St., Greenwood. A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
