Charles Delbert 'Del' Glanden, 56
FREDERICA - Charles Delbert "Del" Glanden of Frederica died suddenly Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 56.
Mr. Glanden was born Aug. 28, 1950, in Milford, son of Charlotte (Hammond) Burke and the late Lewis Glanden.
He was a 1969 graduate of the last graduating class of Felton High School.
Mr. Glanden was a Vietnam War veteran serving in the U.S. Army.
He was a service technician for Hilyard's Inc., Newport, where he had worked for 22 years.
He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan. He also enjoyed NASCAR and was a Kyle Petty and Richard Petty fan. He loved to travel with his wife and family throughout the United States and the world.
The highlights of his travel experiences were his cruise to Greece, where he enjoyed climbing the steps of the Acropolis and his trips to the Grand Canyon and Hawaii. He also enjoyed going to Delaware Park to watch the thoroughbred horse racing. He was an avid collector of model trains and enjoyed collecting the state quarters. He loved to work with his hands, especially working in and maintaining his yard. He loved nature and had just received a telescope with which he would spend time looking into the heavens.
Mr. Glanden attended Felton United Methodist Church and always enjoyed going on the church's trips to baseball games.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Shirley B. Glanden; twin sons, Mark M. Glanden and Matthew B. Glanden, both of Wilmington; his mother, Charlotte (Hammond) Burke of Dover; a sister and a brother-in-law, Beverly and Albert "Bud" Coverdale of Milford; an uncle, Oliver Hammond of Milford; a mother-in-law, Alice Lee Brittingham of Felton; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Welsh of Felton and Pat Kohut of Milford; a brother-in-law and his wife, Bill and Lisa Brittingham of Felton; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 4 p.m. Sunday in Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Victory Junction Gang Camp, 4500 Adam's Way, Randleman, NC 27317.
