CLAYTON - Charles David Straughn, of Clayton, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Tuesday, March 4, 2008. He was 59.
Charles was born Feb. 25, 1949, in Dover, son of the late Harvey Whaley Straughn and Viola Little Straughn.
He worked as a farmer from his early teens into his 30s.
Charles then was a very dedicated employee to Clarks and Sons Overhead Doors for the past 22 years.
He enjoyed fishing, working in the garden, spending time with his family and friends and doing anything he could for others.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret L. Voss.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Wanda Robinson Straughn; a daughter, Natalie Dodd and her husband Henry of Chestertown, Md.; two sons, Charles David Straughn Jr. of Wilmington and Paul Harvey Straughn of Clayton; four brothers, Arthur Straughn and his wife Barbara, George Straughn and his wife Dorothy, Harvey Straughn and his wife Barbara and Kenneth Straughn, all of Townsend; two sisters, Kathleen Baker and her husband Gene of York, Pa., and Pat Bradburn and her husband Gordon of Port Orchid, Wash.; his goddaughter and niece, Ashley Frances Fletcher of Smyrna; three grandchildren, Brooke, Jacob and Marshall Dodd, all of Chestertown; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joseph and Frances Dugan; his brothers-in-law, Hank Robinson and his wife Nancy, Kendall Robinson, Robert Robinson and his wife Linda, Joseph Dugan Jr. and his wife Liz and Lawrence Voss; two sisters-in-law, Joanne Fletcher and her husband Dan and Celeste Hufford and her husband David; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Burial will be in Townsend Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720; American Heart Association, 1151 Walker Road, Suite 202, Dover, DE 19904; or Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
