Charles D. Coverdale

SMYRNA - Charles D. 'Doug' Coverdale, of Smyrna, died at home on Sunday, July 25, 2011. He is the son of the late Charles Coverdale and Margaret Sapp Coverdale. Mr. Coverdale was gifted as a handy man and could perform various different skills. He worked at Smyrna Diner helping with maintenance, ordering supplies, and any other task that needed to be done. In earlier years, he was a truck driver for Preston Trucking, he also was a self-employed carpenter and owned and operated the Dover Meat Market for eight years. He loved gardening, was very handy, and had great wood working skills. He also attended the Trinity Wesleyan Church in Dover. He is survived by his significant other and loving companion of 25 years, Sandy Margist; three children, Connie F. Hill, Allen Wayne Coverdale and Shelia M. Friend and her husband Steven John; a sister, Mary M. Yarema; three grandchildren, Cody and Logan Hill and Chaz Navarro; two step children, Richard Hughes and wife Sheila, Jamie Compton and husband Jonathan; special Step grandchildren, Tara, Nathan, Jacob and Hailey Hughes, Bradley Margist, Corynn Oscar and Hayden Compton; and two special step great-grandchildren, Tristan Margist Oscar and Alana Oscar. Funeral Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2011, in the Chapel of Berry Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, Delaware. Friends may call Saturday after 1 p.m. Interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln, Delaware. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Trinity Wesleyan Church, 1564 South State Street, Dover, DE 19901.
