LINCOLN - Catherine E. Mackey of Lincoln died Monday, Jan. 1, 2007, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 84.

Mrs. Mackey was born May 3, 1922, in Clarksville, daughter of the late Elizabeth Tunnell and William Short Sr.

She was educated at George Washington Carver School, Frankford.

She was a foster mother to numerous children.

Mrs. Mackey attended Union Wesley United Methodist Church in Clarksville in her earlier years. Later she attended several churches before settling at Graham AME Church where she ushered, was a missionary and worked on many boards.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Caroline McCoy; a brother, William Short Jr.; and her beloved husband, Mr. Mackey.

She is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, George Jr. and Sumiko Dale of Okinowa, Japan; five brothers and a sister-in-law, Fred and Susann of Milford, Charles of Camden, N.J., Samuel of Philadelphia, Alfred and Bernard, both of New Jersey; seven sisters, Ollie Howell, Doris Woodard, Lorraine Simmons, Naomi and Ruth, Rose Hill and Anna Hill; a granddaughter, Cathleen McGriff and her husband, Tyrun of Maryland; a grandson, Albert McCoy III of Lincoln and George Dale III of Maryland; a special foster daughter, Sandra Green of Ellendale; two special friends, Gina Knapp of Milton and Leila Drummond of Georgetown; six great-grandchildren; many foster grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Union Wesley United Methodist Church, 32137 Powell Road 362, Clarksville, where friends may call two hours earlier.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to help defray funeral costs to George L. Dale Jr., 3384 Hunting Quarter Road, Harrington, DE 19952.
