Carlton E. Willis, 87

GALENA, Md. - Carlton E. Willis, of Galena, died peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, at home with his family by his side. He was 87.

Born Oct. 13, 1920, near Centreville, Mr. Willis was the son of the late John and Blanch (Bryant) Willis.

He attended public school in Queen Anne's County, and helped his father run their family farm.

Mr. Willis joined the U.S. Army during World War II.

After the war, he worked for General Motors, and eventually retired after 34 years of service from Thiokol (now ATK) in 1987.

Mr. Willis was a member of the Chestertown Baptist Church and the 29th Army Division of the American Legion Post 15.

He loved taking his classic car to shows and spending time with his family, especially his great-grandchildren, two of whom are his namesakes.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Willis was preceded in death by eight sisters and six brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anna Bramble Willis; his daughter, Bonnie Gallant and her husband Richard of Leonardtown; his granddaughters, Michelle Gallant-Wall and Paula Tepel, both of Leonardtown; four great-grandchildren, Spencer and Logan Carlton Wall and Jackson and Carley Anne Tepel; two sisters, Adrienne Vickers of Chestertown and Anne Sands of Easton; and a close friend, Robert Payne Jr.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, where friends may call one hour prior.

Interment with military honors will follow in Galena Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Chester River Home Care and Hospice, 6602 Church Hill Road, Chestertown, MD 21620.
