C. Marvel Woodward, 82

RIDGELY, MD - C. Marvel Woodward, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, in his home near Ridgely, Md. He was 82. Born in Ridgely on Nov. 7, 1926, Mr. Woodward was the son of the late James Clark Woodward and Mary Leona Marvel Woodward. His wife, Genevieve (Jean) Woodward died April 29, 1977. Mr. Woodward had lived in the Caroline County area all of his life. He was a 1944 graduate of Ridgely High School. He was a farmer most of his life, but had also managed the Princeton Turf Farms in Queen Anne County until 1977. He then was the groundskeeper for the Caroline Country Club near Denton, Md., until he retired after 25 years. He was also a devoted member of the Greensboro Baptist Church in Greensboro, Md. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Ann Woodward Werner, on Sept. 23, 1997; his granddaughter, Baby Jean Woodward, on Oct. 21, 2007; two sisters, Doris Brittingham and A. Virginia McClyment; and one brother, Kenneth Woodward. Mr. Woodward is survived by four daughters, Linda Beaven and her husband Ronnie, of Woodbridge, Va., Pamela Oakes and her husband Twaun, of Centreville, Md., Susan Ringgold and her husband Bill, of Greensboro, Md., and Debbie Knipple and her husband Art, of Harrington; one son, Michael Woodward and his wife Amy, of Ridgely, Md.; 11 grandchildren, Mike, Michelle, Josh, Laura, Jon, Ally, Jennifer, Stephanie, Emily, Nikki, and Zach; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008 at the Greensboro Baptist Church on Sunset Ave., in Greensboro. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second St., Denton, MD 21629. Burial will be in the Denton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests for friends to send memorial donations to the Greensboro Baptist Church, P.O. Box 66, 401 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro, MD 21639; or to the Caroline Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 362, Denton, MD 21629.
