DOVER - Beverly J. Sweet, of Dover, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover, after a two-year battle with breast cancer. She was 60.

Mrs. Sweet was born in 1948 in Warren, Pa., to Edwin and Joyce O'Connor.

She worked as a part-time secretary at Legislative Hall.

Before moving to Dover, she taught computers to kindergarten through sixth-graders in Springfield, Va.; ran an in-school suspension program in San Diego and volunteered at many school libraries.

Mrs. Sweet had a bachelor's degree in education, with her area of expertise in English.

She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Dover and completed a four-year course there in education for ministry. She also taught adult Christian education classes.

Mrs. Sweet was a Delaware Master Gardener and enjoyed working in the church yard, gardening at home, knitting, action/adventure movies and spending time with her grandson.

She is survived by her mother, Joyce O'Connor; her husband of 37 years, Jeff Sweet of Dover; two sons, Brian Sweet and his wife Debbie, and Mark Sweet and his wife Rebecca; two grandsons, Derek and Christopher; and her brother and sister, Robert O'Connor and Barbara Toner.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Christ Episcopal Church, South State and Water streets, Dover.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover.

Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101; or to a favorite charity of choice.
