HARRINGTON - Ann Howard Leonard Robertson of Harrington died Monday, April 30, 2007, in home surrounded by her children.
She was born in Portsmouth, Va., daughter of the late Linwood F. and Grace Bazemore Howard.
Mrs. Robertson went to the Salisbury State Teachers College and the University of Delaware. She taught special education for eight years in the Millsboro and Georgetown Elementary Schools which are now part of the Indian River School District
She left teaching and worked for the state highway department until she secured a job as a chief clerk of the JP Court No.6.
She also served as deputy director of Uniform Commercial Code, and worked in the state Personnel Department of Natural Resources.
The last 22 years of her career, she worked as a probation and parole officer where she retired in 2002 with a combined state service of 42 years. She was very dedicated as a probation and parole officer and took her role seriously.
Mrs. Robertson was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 11, Harrington Senior Center, Harrington High School Alumni Association, Kent County Community Democrat Club, FOP Lodge 10, charter member of the National Museum of the American Indian, Washington, D.C., and a former member of Harrington Baptist Church.
In her spare time, Mrs. Robertson enjoyed visiting national parks, national monuments, and the Native American Indian reservations in Arizona, Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico.
She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Robertson, who passed away on March 24, 2004.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Tom Houska of Dover; a son and daughter-in-law, William "Billy" and Cindy Leonard of Harrington; a sister, Louisa Howard of Harrington; grandchildren, Kari Glanden, Ashlyn Houska, Billy Leonard; step-grandchildren, Leigh Nichol, Luke Donaway, Zack Donaway, Rebekah Tapman; former husband and lifelong friend, Gene F. Leonard of Ardmore, Pa.; and a very special friend, Edith Minner of Dover.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Highway, Harrington, where friends may call one hour prior to the service
Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington
Instead of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy, Dover, DE 19901.
