FORESTVILLE, Md. - Amelia Anne Roach, daughter of the late Alonzo and Margaret Dredden, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, in the Prince George's Community Hospital, Cheverly, after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was a resident of Forestville. She was 71. Ms. Roach was born Aug. 17, 1937, in Seaford, Del. She was educated in the local school system and graduated with the class of 1955 from William C. Jason High School, Georgetown, Del. She was employed as a legal secretary at the law offices of Ashcraft and Gerel in Fort Washington, D.C. Ms. Roach was a faithful member at Carolina Missionary Baptist Church, Fort Washington, where she served for 38 years as musician. She was also involved in many other organizations. She is survived by five children, Cheryl Johnson (Anthony); of Concord, Del., George Roach (Stephanie) of Cheltenham, Persephone Deas (Whitt Jr.) of Indian Trail, N.C., Carl Roach (Linda) of Glouchester, Mass., and Terri Seriki (Ladi) of Stone Mountain, Ga.; grandchildren, Anthony (TJ) and Jessica Johnson, Tiphane, Whitney, and Stephane Deas, Krystina and Temitope Seriki and Desiree Roach; one great-granddaughter, the apple of her eye, Shanae Destiny Johnson. She is also survived by a sister, Carol (Bobby) Greene; uncle, James (Grace) Dredden; several nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family. Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, in Carolina Missionary Baptist Church, 9901 Allentown Road in Fort Washington. There was also a viewing on Saturday Sept. 13, 2008, in Mt. Calvary AME Church, School Lane in Concord, Del. Burial will followed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, the AIDS Foundation or to Carolina Missionary Baptist Church in her memory. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Easton.
