Alvin Phillips Lyons, 92

SEAFORD - Alvin Phillips Lyons of Seaford died Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, in Genesis Elder Care, Seaford. He was 92.

Mr. Lyons was born in Wilmington, son of the late Amanda (Phillips) and Alvin Thomas Lyons.

He was a graduate of Seaford High School, class of 1933.

Mr. Lyons was a self-employed farmer for 70 years.

He loved gardening and sharing his harvest with his family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends each morning at the Pizza King.

Mr. Lyons was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Seaford, and of the Reliance Grange, and a member for more than 50 years of the Gethsemane Lodge, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Lyons; and two sisters, Mildred Owens and Lulu O"Day.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Catherine Allen Lyons; a son and a daughter-in-law, Wayne A. and Kitty Lyons of Fenwick Island; a daughter and a son-in-law, Rebecca A. and Steven Garner of Bridgeville; five grandchildren, David Lyons, Shawn Daniel, Kelly Gray, Erin Garner and Brandt Garner; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Front and King streets, Seaford, where friends may call one hour earlier and a Masonic service will be at 1:45 p.m. The Rev. Ed Kuhling will officiate.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Wesley United Methodist Church Building Fund, 22025 Atlanta Road, Seaford, DE 19973.
