Allan W. Dayhoff Sr.

LINCOLN - Allan W. Dayhoff, Sr., 86, of Lincoln, Delaware, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 29, 2010, with his wife by his side. He was born Aug. 23, 1924, in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Dayhoff. He was the youngest of 5 siblings. On December 10, 1960, he married Hope Atwood Gillespie. After graduating from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1942, he enlisted in the Navy. He served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Prairie during WWII until the time of his honorable discharge in 1946. After service in the Navy, he went on to receive 83 credits towards his engineering degree at Johns Hopkins University. He was employed by Baltimore Gas and Electric as a commercial representative for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He is best known for his love for his family, especially his wife, his strength, ability to fix anything, and tireless upkeep of all that God entrusted to his care. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Jorai Dayhoff of Taneytown, Md.; son and daughter-in-law, Allan and Debbie Dayhoff of Fairfax, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Sam Lamerson of Boynton Beach, Fla.; son, Jeff Dayhoff of Naples, Fla.; and daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Joe Whiting of Two Harbors, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Services will be private. Letters of condolence may be sent and guest book signed at torbertfuneral.com.
