MILTON - Alice Hopkins passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016. Alice was born Nov. 11, 1928 daughter of the late William D. and Lydia Waples. Alice was a native and lifelong resident of Milton and was a graduate of Milton High School Class of 1946, one of 16 graduates. Mrs. Hopkins retired from H.O. Brittingham Elementary School as a paraprofessional. After retirement she worked as a Guest Book Attendant with Short Funeral Services. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Hopkins, "mom-mom" to the five grandchildren, was an attentive and loving grandmother who never missed an opportunity to share and celebrate the events of her grandchildren's lives, birthdays, baptisms, graduations, dance recitals, little league games, lacrosse games, band and choir concerts and many other events. The children loved spending time at their grandparent's home. They spent many joy filled summer days climbing trees, swimming in the pool, running and playing in the yard and trips to Harrington Fair, holiday events and many more. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Hopkins, Jr.; two daughters, Sandra Lee Hopkins and Tamra Hopkins Brittingham; son-in-law, Michael Pelrine; one granddaughter, Jordan Brittingham; one brother and one niece. She is survived by her children, Deborah Hopkins West and husband, Charles P. "Chip" West, II, of Millsboro, and George E. "Ed" Hopkins, III, and wife, Debbie Hopkins, of Rehoboth; five grandchildren, Eban Hopkins Brittingham and Randi Meredith, of Milton, George E. "Edward" Hopkins, IV, and Jennifer Hopkins, of Millsboro, Andrew Brock Hopkins, of Tampa, Fla., Stephanie Hopkins Brown and Tyler Brown, of Milton, and Jenna Lee West, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; five great-grandchildren, George E. "E.J." Hopkins, V, and Joshua Hopkins, both of Millsboro, Zachary Hopkins, Pepper Brittingham, and Madelyn Brown, all of Milton; several nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, William G. Hopkins and wife, Thelma, of Harbeson. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton, with visitation after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton. Contributions in Alice's memory can be made to Coolspring Presbyterian Church, PO Box 36, Harbeson, DE 19951.
