DOVER - Alan W. Morrison Jr., of Dover, age 79, died at home on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011. He was born on Feb. 20, 1931, in Buffalo, N.Y., to the late Alan W. Morrison Sr., and Florence Barrett Morrison. He was raised in Montclair and Glen Ridge, N.J. Mr. Morrison served in the U.S. Coast Guard during Korean Conflict, and Graduated Rutgers University class of 1958. His career in facilities managements led him to work for Agway, Cornell University, University of Pittsburgh, Oxirane, and Arco Chemical Company. While working for Arco, Alan lived in Haddonfield, N.J., and was active in the American Cancer Society, and supported the Haddonfield Symphony. Upon retirement, Alan consulted for Arco Chemical Company in Hong Kong, Glaxo Pharmaceuticals in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. He was a member of Society for Research Administrators, and a lifetime member of Facilities Managements Association. He retired to a 45 acre farm in Nathalie, Va., where he was active in the Virginia Baptist Disaster Relief Team, where he and his wife Nancy provided support for recovery teams at the Staten Island site following 9/11, as well as flood disasters in Virginia and West Virginia, and Hurricane Isabel in Norfolk in 2003, providing 20,000 meals per day. In his younger years, Alan competed in 5k and 10k races and he enjoyed sculling, and boating. He was active with US Coast Guard Auxiliary, Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation, Rutgers Alumni Association, Schwartz Theater, Friends of the Wanamaker Organ, Delaware Agricultural Museum, Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Weather Watchers for WBOC-TV in Salisbury, Md., and the Delaware Electric Cooperative. Alan will be remembered as "Terminally Twelve" by his family. Always quick with a joke or funny comment, he loved puns. He was always trying to unload his "treasures" on his children. Know as "the Mayor" of every neighborhood he lived in, he never met a stranger and was the go-to person for news, advice and tools, whether you wanted them or not. Loved by all who knew him, he will be sadly missed, but not forgotten. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Christopher Morrison and his wife Dana, and Robert Morrison and wife Amy; stepchildren, Christopher Jahn, Jennifer Larson and husband Kurt, and Timothy Jahn and wife Deborah; grandchildren, Grace Larson, Connor, Meghan, and Caitlyn Jahn.; and former wife, Mary Morrison. Family has arranged a private burial with a memorial service to be held at a later date. Contributions in Alan's name may be made to Delaware Agricultural Museum, Kent County SPCA, or a charity of one's choice. Arrangements by Trader Funeral Home Inc., 12 Lotus Street, Dover.
