Alan Ringgold Neal

CLAYTON - Alan Ringgold Neal passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018 at his home.
Mr. Neal was born July 16, 1922 in Millington, Md., the son of the late George E. Neal and Louetta Ringgold Neal.
Mr. Neal honorably served his country in World War II with the United States Army, in both the European and Asiatic Pacific Theaters of Operation.
He worked as a Terminal Manager of the Oil Department for 25 years for Clements Supply Company in Clayton, retiring in 1984. Prior to that he worked for many years at Rothwell's Garage in Smyrna.
Alan was a Life member of VFW Post 8801 of Clayton, served three terms as Councilman for the Town of Clayton, was the former Director of Clayton Savings & Loan, and was a Charter Member of the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. and was proud to have a certificate of Charter Member signed by Bob Dole.
He enjoyed spending time with his loving family as well as traveling, camping, and spending winters in Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Neal; his son, Donald G. Neal; a grandson, Robert J. Neal; and his brother, George E. Neal, Jr.
He is survived by two sons, Jerry Neal and his wife Sharon of Smyrna, and Bob Neal of Clayton; three grandchildren, Donna Neal Gregory and her husband Dan, Robyn Neal Hall and her husband Jim, and Greg Alan Neal and his wife Jennifer; eight great grandchildren; one great great grandson; his sister, Ann Dagenais; and his brother, Evans Neal.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m.
Burial will be held in Crumpton Cemetery in Crumpton, Md.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the charity of your choice.
