Adriano Benini

DOVER - Adriano 'Ben' Benini, died May 16, 2012. Born in Cologna, Italy, he was the son of the late Luigi (Louis) and Elvira Benini. Ben had proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Command Sergeant Major and had served during WWII, Korea and two tours of duty to Vietnam. He retired in 1976 after serving for over 30 years. He had been a kind and considerate man who then dedicated his life doing charitable works for his fellow man. He had been an active member of Holy Cross Church and was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4182. He had been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans Association and the Sons of Italy. Throughout his activities Ben always found time for his loving family as he had been a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who was truly one of those people who really made a difference in the lives that he touched. In his quieter moments he enjoyed gardening. In addition to his parents, he was predeceded in death by his wife, Ann Barnhart Benini, who died in July 1996. He is survived by two sons, David A. and wife, Sharon Benini, of Hartly, Jeffrey E. and wife, Tammy Benini, of Dover; two daughters, Barbara A. and husband, James Vecore, of Dover, and Linda L. and husband, Richard Maltbie, of Gainesville, Va.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Friends may call starting at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2012, at Holy Cross Church, 631 S. State St. Dover, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12:30 p.m. Interment with Military Honors will take place 10 a.m. on Tuesday, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE. Family suggests donations in his memory to the Disabled American Veterans 183 South St. Camden, De 19934. Life's End Services are by Michael J. Ambruso Funeral Director, Inc.
