William W. 'Sappy' Sapp, 81
CLAYTON - William W. "Sappy" Sapp, formerly of Hartly, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009, in Heartland Hospice, Wilmington. He was 81. He was born on April 12, 1928, in Dover, to the late William and Sallie Rash Sapp. Mr. Sapp was a U.S. Army veteran for two years, where he went to school to become a heavy equipment operator. After his tour in the Army, he farmed with his father for a period, and then his career led to a job with Eastburn Construction in Newark, as a heavy equipment operator. After several years there, he then went to Greggo and Ferrara, where he retired in 1991 and had become one of the best grader operators in Delaware. After retiring he did woodworking with his wife making yard ornaments, gardening, bowling and fishing. Also spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda; and sisters, Patsy Sapp, Margaret Jarman, and Ora Law. He is survived by his loving wife, Esther Sapp, who he loved dearly; four sisters, Marie Blair of Dover, Verna Donavon of Newark, Grace Johnson of Clayton, and Emily Emerson of Bear; four stepsons, Keith Diaz of Georgia, Kenneth Diaz of Newark, George Diaz of Dover, and Kevin Stevenson of New Hampshire; 10 grandchildren, Tiffany Cox, Miranda Cox, Victoria Cox, Michael and Jeffrey Diaz, Dylan and Dylanee Diaz, Solana Diaz, Rowan and Tori Stevenson; many nieces and nephews; and one uncle and aunt, Presley and Mary Rash. Remembrance services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Trader Funeral Home in Dover. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the Trader Funeral Home in Dover. Burial will be at the Sharon Hill Memorial Park, Dover. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Heartland Hospice, 5661 Ochetree Lane, Wilmington, DE 19808.
