TOWNSEND - William "Sidecar" Robert Laws passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Oct. 27, 2018. Billy was born on Dec. 17, 1950, he was the son of the late Charles "Chum" and Jean Laws.
Billy loved to ride his motorcycle, he even referred to it as a family vehicle, with the three little kids in the sidecar and Ashley on the back. He loved to go hunting, fox hunting, rabbit hunting, deer hunting, any kind of hunting. All the kids had beagles they claimed as theirs but, they were all Billy's and he loved to take the dogs hunting with him. The girls have memories of riding around in the truck with their dad listening to the CB radio and trying to "see" the fox. He gained his love of hunting from his father and would have "game" night with his dad and brothers at least once a week.
Billy also loved anything that had to do with horses but especially loved going to the races. He fell in love with harness racing in the early 70's, another love he gained from his father. Together they would train, care for and race horses. He also loved to go fishing, spend time with his loved ones and could tell jokes that would keep you laughing until you had a stitch in your side.
He was a retired member of The United States Marine Corp.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Laws; a sister, Alice Laws; two sons/nephews, Drew and Zachery Laws; and a nephew, Andy Olney.
He is survived by two daughters, Ashley and Abigail Laws; four grandchildren, Emma, Calvin, and Ethan Rhoades, as well as Mandell Carter Wise; two brothers Ricky and Ronny Laws; two sisters, Kathy Wade and Jenny Ostberg; and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St. Middletown, a brief service will begin at 8 p.m. A celebration of life will be held in May at the Vietnam Veteran's Motorcycle Club. Further details to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Wilmington VA Medical Center Att: voluntary services, 1601 Kirkwood Highway, Wilm., DE 19805
