MILFORD - William R. Scott, of Milford, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, in Bayhealth at Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 96. William was born April 5, 1912, in Bridgeville, son of the late Samuel and Alice (Todd) Scott. He was employed with General Baking Company for 33 years and then Milford School District for many years. In 2004, Mr. Scott received the Governor's Outstanding Volunteer Award. William also participated in all the Milford Senior Center Variety Shows. He was an avid Pinochle player and Phillies Fan. He especially loved attending all his grandsons and great grandson's sporting events. He was a member of Houston U.M. Church, Milford VFW, Milford American Legion, Harrington Moose and both the Milford and Harrington Senior Centers. Mr. Scott was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the European Theater. In addition to his parents, his wife, Florence (Short) Scott preceded him in death in 1983. He is also preceded in death by four sisters, Lillian Littleton, Cora Bunting, Carrie Draper and Ethel Hill; and a brother, Lewis Scott. He is survived by three children, Bonnie McKenzie and husband Richard, Kay Welsh and husband George and Joan Johnson and good friend, Jack Mills; three grandchildren, Scott McKenzie and wife Shelby, Mark Johnson and fiancé Aixa and Dean Johnson and wife Lauren; two great-grandchildren, Dallas McKenzie and Vanessa Johnson; a sister, Sara Savage of Georgetown; special friend, Catherine Fleming; a special niece and nephew, John and Joyce Valley along with many other nieces and nephews. A funeral service were held Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford. Burial was in Milford Community Cemetery.
