William P. Turner, 92

MILFORD - William P. Turner of Milford passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at Country Rest Nursing Home, Greenwood, after a short illness. He was 92.

Bill was born in Selbyville on Jan. 6, 1915, son of the late Anna and William Turner.

He served his country during World War II.

In 1947, Bill moved his family to Milford and opened a service station in Lynch Heights, north of Milford.

In 1965, he went to work for the state of Delaware (DelDOT) and retired from there in 1977.

Bill was a familiar face at all the auctions in the area and was an avid yard sale enthusiast.

He attended the Milford Church of the Nazarene.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, the mother of his children, Mildred Tingle Turner, in 1983; and his sister, Irene, in November 2007.

He is survived by his second wife of 17 years, Octavia French Turner; a daughter, Joan Smith and her husband Gerald of Milford; a grandson, Bill Turner and his wife Judy of Georgia and his children, Billy Jr., Trevor, Nicole and Braun; a granddaughter, Nancy Smith and her husband Sean, and daughter Whitney Callaway; a son, Parker "Zeb" Turner and his wife Maxine of Lewes, and their children, David and his wife Lisa of Plano, Texas, and their children, Luke and Ben and Clay Turner and his wife Diane and their children, Madison and Emily; his great-great-grandchildren, Cody, Jaxson and Zoey, the children of Billy Jr.; his stepchildren, Bob French and his wife Katherine, their son Keith and his son, Daniel, and Linda Kuhling and her husband, the Rev. Ed Kuhling, and their children, Jennifer, Allison and Kyle.

Funeral services will be noon Friday in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford, where friends may call one hour prior.

Interment will be in Milford Community Cemetery.

Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to Milford Food Bank, c/o Trevor Turner, Milford Business Park, 1040 Mattlind Way, Milford, DE 19963.
