William Mankiw, 85

DOVER - William Mankiw, age 85, of Dover, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Bay Health Medical Center, Dover. Born in Bayone, N.J., he was the son of the late Alexander and Julia Retzko Mankiw. Mr. Mankiw was a World War II Army Veteran and had worked most of his adult life as an engineer with AT&T. He had lived in Randallstown, Md., prior to moving to Dover in 2004. He was a member of Holy Cross Church and the Disabled American Veterans Assoc. In his earlier days he enjoyed bowling, dancing and playing cards. He had been a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and enjoyed the time spent with his family and close friends. He is survived by his wife, Bernice M. Mankiw of Dover; his son, William. Jr and wife Diana of Churchton, Md.; four daughters and their spouses, Linda and Charles Meade of Virginia Beach, Va., Joyce and Russell Hudson of Elkton, Md., Sandra and Dean Peterson of Woodbury, Minn., Pamela and Robert Karp of Fredericksburg, Va.; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Church, S. State St., Dover. Interment will be at 1 p.m. in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro. Family suggests donations in his memory to the American Heart Assoc., 1151 Walker Rd., Dover, DE 19904. Guestbook and condolences may be forwarded via www.ambruso.com.
