William 'Bill' Herd, 68 MILFORD - William "Bill" Herd passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2010, in his home. He was 68. Bill was born in Milford to the late Lanora and Andy Herd of Milford. He attended Houston grade school and was a graduate of Milford High School. Bill went into the army after high school to serve his country for 33+ years. He enjoyed serving his country and cherished the friendships that were made, especially with Jim Sharp whom also worked at A&P. His first job was at Shockley Dougherty's store in Houston. He was also a former volunteer member of the Houston fire company. He worked at the A&P and then became the dairy manager of Super Fresh in Milford. After 42 years he retired in 2001. Bill had a love for people. He enjoyed small talk, telling stories, laughing, joking, and just getting to know everyone. He was rarely seen without his smile it was infectious. There were few people Bill didn't know. Family was extremely important to Bill and he looked forward to spending time with them. He frequented the Tasty Freeze and diner, where he shared many stories and memorable times. He loved to talk. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Lanora and Andy; and a brother Andy Lee Jr. He is survived by sister, Joyce A Herd; brother, Jimmy Herd and wife Jane both of Houston; ex-wife, Tammy Herd, and their children, Erica Herd Bauer and Husband Keith, Brent Herd, Bradley Herd, Colby Herd; and one grandson, Alexander Bauer. A funeral service was held Saturday, April 10, in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford. Burial was in Milford Community Cemetery.
