DOVER - William David Whisler, Jr. died peacefully in his sleep on Aug. 11, 2018 after a long and courageous struggle with brain cancer.
He was born in January 1948 at U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart, Germany the first child of loving parents William, Sr. and Kathleen (Peters) Whisler of Wilmington.
Active in the Boy Scouts as a youth, Bill became an Eagle Scout. He graduated from John Dickinson High School and later attended the University of Delaware before serving in the United States Coast Guard.
Bill was a Quality Control Supervisor at Hoechst Celanese before starting his own painting company. His lifelong passion for cars eventually led to car sales. His knowledge of cars was unsurpassed and he had a commitment to quality service to his customers both before and after their purchase of a car. He retired from Dover Price Honda after almost 30 years.
Bill is survived by his parents; his wife, Tomi; his sons, Jeffrey (Amber) and William III; his granddaughter, Katia; his sisters, Penny Thomas and Mary Whisler; step-sons, Greg Diven (Cathy) and James Diven (Theresa); four step-granddaughters; and one step-great-grandson.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated doctors and staff of the Oncology and Neuro-Surgical Departments at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, DR. Joseph Rubacky and his office staff, especially his nurse Jessica, the staff of Seasons Hospice, especially Bill's Nurse -Care Coordinator Barbara and aid Ari as well as numerus other professionals who assisted Bill.
A private service will be limited to family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be made to Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care Foundation, 220 Continental Drive, Newark, DE 19713.
