BRIDGEVILLE - Walter Murphy, Jr., age 76, of Bridgeville, passed away peacefully in his home, Sunday, July 12, 2015. He was born on December 22, 1938 in Denton, Md., the son of the late Walter and Hazel (Pippin) Murphy, Sr. He was a 1957 graduate of Caroline High School in Denton, Md., and proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963. He worked for DuPont Nylon Co. in Seaford from 1963 to 1996. In his early years he was part of a local shuffleboard team. Walt enjoyed spending time with his wife at their camper in Chincoteague, Va. He also enjoyed listening to country music and landscaping his lawn. He was an avid sports enthusiast and participated in a fantasy baseball league for the past ten years. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Phyllis Ann (Beauchamp) Murphy; a son, Michael Murphy of Bridgeville; a daughter, Sherry Ivory and her husband Billy Ivory and grandson Shayne Ivory of Greenwood; two sisters, Betty Jane Lofland and her husband Harvey Lofland of Greenwood, and Norma Lee Covey of Roseboro, N.C.; a brother, William Murphy and his wife Charlotte of N.C.; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Bloomery Cemetery, Bloomery Rd, Federalsburg, MD 21632 on Saturday, July 25, at 11 a.m. Arrangements are being handled by Fleischauer Funeral Home, Greenwood. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to DE Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
