CAMDEN - Walter M. Weeks, Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family on May 7, 2014. Mr. Weeks was born in Northfield, Conn. on April 14, 1930. He was one of fifteen children born to the late Treadwell Weeks and Elizabeth (Osborn) Weeks. In 1948, after graduating from Thomaston High School in Thomaston, Conn., he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After serving his country, he worked as a mechanic, owning Weeks Atlantic Service Station in Dover. He worked as a shop foreman for Buchanan Service Firestone, then the City of Dover, before retiring in 1990. During his retirement, he worked in commercial sales for Carl King Tire Co. He was an active member of the Caesar Rodney Ruritan Club for many years, serving as president and vice-president. Mr. Weeks was a family man who had the patience and persistence to fix anything and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. In 1952, he married the love of his life, Catherine (Sapp) Weeks. In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by one son, Walter M. Weeks, Jr. and his son, Walter M. Weeks, III, both of Des Moines, Washington; and three daughters, Sherry Staley of Wilmington and her children, Jimmy, Christopher, Billy, Gloria, and Angel; Denise Weeks-Tappan, her husband B. Dana Tappan, and their sons, Matt and Sam of Magnolia; and Lisa Sirman, her boyfriend John, and daughter, Rebecca of Camden. He is also survived by three brothers, Burtis, of Northfield, Conn., Arthur and Henry of Camden; and two sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Newton, of Torrington, Conn., and Margie Voshell of Camden. He was preceded in death by one sister; eight brothers; and daughter-in-law, Yong ok Weeks. Friends may attend a public viewing from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2014, at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Burial will be private. The family would like to thank the staff at Delaware Hospice for the loving, compassionate care they gave to Mr. Weeks and his family during his final days. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Letters of condolences can be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com
