GEORGETOWN - Walter D. Outten, 71, of Georgetown, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. Walter was born in Milford, the son of the late Tilghman and Delema (Paskey) Outten. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School. Shortly after graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving in the submarine service on the USS John Adams for eight years. He continued his military service by joining the U.S. Coast Guard, serving for 12 years before retiring with the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. Following his career in the military, Walter worked for Motorola in Dover for ten years. After Motorola closed their doors, Walter started his own two way radio business known as Kent Sussex Communications in Magnolia, which he operated for eight years. Walter decided to close his business when he was offered the opportunity to join the Sussex County 911 Communications Support Center in Georgetown for his expertise. He worked there for 11 years before having to retire due to illness in 2014. In his spare time, Walter enjoyed spending time with his family, organizing family trips and traveling with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Irma Outten; his children, Vanessa Dennis of Hawaii, Theresa Marsico, of Lewes and Scott Outten and his wife Prieta, of Milford; his grandchildren, Alicia, Rachael, Haley and her husband Mike, Danielle, Briana, Isabelle, Cassandra, and Brendan; his great grandchildren, Kendall and Olive; his sister, Karen Spence and her husband Frank, of Greenwood; and his brother, Leonard Outten and his wife Kay, of Harrington.
