SMRYNA - Walter Benoit Jr., of Smyrna, died Sunday, July 10, 2011, at home. He was 76. Walter was born Oct. 15, 1934, in Massachusetts to the late Walter Benoit, Sr. and Grace M. Hurney Benoit. He had served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Walter retired in 1989 after 34 years as a machinist. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Robert "Bob" and Donald Benoit; and stepson, Kirke N. Mitchell. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Nancy Kay Benoit of Smyrna; daughters, Audrey Benoit of Florida, Deborah Jackson and her husband Donald of North Carolina; daughter-in-law who he considered more a daughter, Julie Knox Mitchell of Delaware; stepson, Dennis Fongeallaz of Maryland; sister, Pat Williams and her husband Maynard of Massachusetts; brothers, Francis Benoit and his wife Claire, and Richard Benoit, all of Massachusetts; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and extended family; and his beloved four legged babies, Teddy and Taffy. In keeping with Walters wishes there will be no services, burial will be in Spencer, Mass., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S.
