The Honorable Wallace P. Wootten, 83
FELTON - The Honorable Wallace P. Wootten of Felton passed away Wednesday, Nov., 8, 2006, in his home, surrounded by his family. He was 83.
Mr. Wootten was born Jan. 31, 1923, in Gumboro, son of the late Lester Paul and Jennie (Lewis) Wootten.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and was awarded a Purple Heart during his service in World War II.
Mr. Wootten owned and operated Wootten"s Corner Market, Frederica, in the 1950s and later established Wootten"s Insurance, Frederica, in the 1960s. Along with his other business responsibilities, he was elected to serve the people of the 33rd District as their representative from 1962-64 and was a Kent County Magistrate working between courts in Harrington, Dover and Smyrna from 1966-70, and again from 1974 until his full retirement from the insurance company and the county in 1985.
He was a life member and past president of the Murderkill Lions Club, Frederica, a life member of the Frederica Fire Co., and a member of the Harrington Senior Center and the 94th Infantry Division Association.
Mr. Wootten was a member for more than 60 years of Trinity United Methodist Church, Frederica.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Wootten; a brother, Doyle F. Wootten; a sister, Betty Shalley; and a granddaughter, Ruth Ann Hayes.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Doris E. Wootten; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Joseph P. and Sandra L. Wootten of Harrington and Wallace Jr. and Brenda Wootten of Felton; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Margaret A. Hayes of Frederica, Kay W. and Bruce Rhoads of Dover and Debbie and Gene Palmer of Felton; three brothers, Louis R. Wootten of Frederica, John N. Wootten of Magnolia and V. Wayne Wootten of Felton; four grandchildren, Dallas Hayes, Erin E. McCarthy, Josh Wootten and Steve Palmer; and two great-grandchildren, Bethany Fitzgerald and Luke McCarthy.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Barratt"s Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
