DAGSBORO - Virginia L. Mitchell of Dagsboro died Sunday, April 1, 2007, in Coastal Hospice at the Lake, Salisbury, Md. She was 83.
She was a retired principal with the Stockley Center School, retiring with 34 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Marie (Ellensworth) Layton; her husband, George T. Mitchell, in 1999; a brother, Vernon Layton; and a sister, Margaret Revel.
She is survived by her sons, Tilghman B. Mitchell of Millsboro, and Steven A. and Sharon Mitchell of Georgetown; a daughter, April M. Powell and her husband Glen of Dagsboro; a brother, Wallace Layton of Georgetown; her sisters, Jeanette Hall of Millsboro, and Carolyn Timmons of Millsboro; five granddaughters; a grandson; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and her special friend and caregiver, Virginia Hickman.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior.
The Rev. Robert A. Hudson will officiate.
Interment will be in Carey's Cemetery, Millsboro.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 625, Georgetown, DE 19947.
