LEWES - Virginia (Simpson) Kennedy of Lewes died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006, in Harbor Health Care & Rehabilitation Center, Lewes. She was 91.
Mrs. Kennedy was born Feb. 19, 1915, near Milford, daughter of the late Wilbur S. and Jennie T. Simpson.
She graduated from Milford Public School and attended Goldey College.
In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Kennedy was employed by Fish Products Co. from 1942 to 1974, where she served as the private secretary to the president, fiscal manager and president of 21 fishing corporations.
She was a loving wife and mother, who enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, flower arranging and genealogical research.
Mrs. Kennedy was a member of the Beaufort, N.C., Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. Until her illness, she was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the Colonel David Hall Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and served on numerous committees and held a variety of elected offices within the organization at both the local, state, and national level. She was elected and served as the Delaware State Regent from 1980 to 1983.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert J. Kennedy; a son and a daughter-in-law, Robert J. III and Jan Kennedy of Lewes; a daughter, Janet E. Kennedy of Milford; a granddaughter and a grandson-in-law, Shelby K. and James DePrisco of Bartlesville, Okla.; three grandsons and a granddaughter-in-law, Robert J. IV and Jennifer Kennedy of Alexandria, Va., James M. Kennedy of Wilmington and Harvey R. Johnson of New York; a granddaughter, Sarah E. Johnson of Milford; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be at Bethel Methodist Cemetery, Lewes.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Col. David Hall Chapter, NSDAR, c/o Mrs. Francis Frampton, Regent, 24 Chesterfield Drive, Lewes, DE 19958; or to the Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 West Fourth St., Lewes.
