Vernon Milton Stevens, 79 HURLOCK, Md. - Vernon Milton Stevens, 79, of Hurlock, died June 20, 2010, in Memorial Hospital, Easton. Mr. Stevens was born on Nov. 30, 1930, in Dagsboro, Del., son of the late Milton B. Stevens and Mildred C. Short Stevens. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Stevens raised his family in Pittsville where he worked for Canteen Vending Machine Company and after his retirement he operated a painting business. He was a member of Pittsville Vol. Fire Company. In 2007 he moved to Hurlock with his wife. Vernon's love for music and playing the Banjo and Dobro throughout the area was his life. He was a member of the Peninsula Blue Grass and played with Ray Sheridan & the Gospel 5. On Saturday's he played at the Piney Valley Country Park in Denton. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Davis Stevens in 2003. Vernon is survived by his wife of three years, Janet Yerkie Stevens; his daughter, Dana Jewell and her husband Frank of Camden; two step-sons, Marty Reed and his wife Darlene of Hurlock, and Rickie Reed and his wife Ina of Rock Hall; three grandchildren, Shane Bradley, Heather Orvis and her husband C.J., and Shelby Mumford; and three step-grandchildren, Samantha, Mindi and James Reed. Friends may call on Thursday, June 24 from 2 to 4 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m., in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 25 at 11 a.m. in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Rock Hall.
