MILFORD - Thomas Russell Brittingham passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at home on Saturday, April 21, 2018 under the care of VITAS Hospice.
Russell was born in Milford, son of the late Calvin and Margaret (Davidson) Brittingham.
Russell worked for many years as a brick mason, and later as an HVAC Tech for the Sherman Corporation. He retired several years ago being self-employed. He was well known in the area for his expertise in building Go-Kart engines. He had a knack for the perfect winning engine combination. His passion for racing developed into owning Russ' Racing Engines where he built engines for over 40 years. Several years ago he was also well known for his #38 stockcar which he raced at Little Lincoln Speedway.
Russ was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed cooking, spending time fellowshipping with family and friends, hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He attended Bethesda UMC and enjoyed singing in the choir.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Robert Brittingham, Catherine Revelle, Laura Reinhart, Sonny Brittingham and Calvin "Dickie" Brittingham; as well as a son, Tracy Tyndall.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Helen "Jeannie" Brittingham; five children, Corinne Brittingham of Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., Vicki Brittingham of Ellendale, Deanne Walker of Laurel, Robert Brittingham and wife Aniko of Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., and Bill Tyndall and wife Susan of Milton; twelve grandchildren, Tara Millman, Chrystal Vervaet, Brianne Timmons, Brice Ingram, Renee White, Dara Callaway, Blaire Hartstein, Camden Brittingham, Taylor Morgan Tyndall, Sommer Paige Tyndall, Kristine Davis and Hunter Tyndall; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Brittingham of Milford; a sister, Barbara McGee and husband Ronnie of Georgetown; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2018 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton, with visitation after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Slaughter Neck Cemetery.
