DARIEN, Ga. - Thomas "Tom" E. Thompson Sr., formerly of Kent Island, Md., died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, in his residence in Darien. He was born Oct. 11, 1936, to Thomas Howard and Mary Madeline Snowberger Thompson in Dominion, Md. Tom married M. Jean Cole on May 9, 1958. Jean preceded him in death in 2006. He was a Chesapeake Bay waterman. He worked in construction in Maryland, Georgia and Florida. After he retired he took a job at the Piggly-Wiggly in Darien. "Mr. Tom" was loved and respected by all the people in the community. He is survived by his family of four daughters and one son, Christy (Tom) Lowe of Marydel, Del., Leslie Thompson (fiancé, Larry Carter), Laura (David) Karwacki, Mary Teresa Boone and Thomas (Susan) Thompson all of Darien; 15 grandchildren and nine great -grandchildren. He was preceded in death by grandchildren, Jessica Karwacki and Thomas H. Thompson. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at the Wye Bible Church 115 Narnia Drive,( On Cemetery Road take the right at the Greenwood Development sign and make the first left at church sign) Grasonville, Md. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles at 1692 Glynco Pkwy, Brunswick, GA 31325.
