Thomas E. Shields, 73 MILFORD - Thomas E. Shields, 73, of Milford, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Bayhealth in Milford. Tom was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on Nov. 18, 1936, to Richard E. and Bessie Shields, being predeceased by both and brothers, Richard and Jimmy. Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He had been an ironworker with Local 451. Prior to retirement in 2000, he worked in construction. He is survived by his wife, Florena (Sanderson) Shields; two sons, David W. Helsdon and wife Barbie, Timothy J. Helsdon and wife Margaret, both of Lincoln; two daughters, Lois Rodriquez of Milford and Lisa Justice and husband Bill of Millsboro; sister, Darlene Stayton and husband Kevin of Houston; brother, Theodore of Camden; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Graveside services were 2 p.m., Saturday, May 1, at Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln. Contributions may be made to: Salvation Army, Sunday Breakfast Mission, P.O. Box 352, Wilmington, DE 19899. Arrangements handled by Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford.
