MILFORD - Thomas E. Garbutt, of Milford, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at Christiana Regional Medical Center. He was 90. Thomas was born in Frederica, son of the late Ira and Elphonzie (Emory) Garbutt. Thomas and his brother Ira were partners in Atlantic Concrete Co., which they owned and operated for many years. Thomas was very active in the Milford community. For many years, he was a member of Avenue United Methodist Church, member of Milford Senior Center, charter member of Shawnee County Club, member of Milford Rotary Club, including Paul Harris Fellow, Bank Director of Milford Trust, served on the Board at Milford Memorial Hospital and served on Milford City Planning and Zoning Board for many years. He attended Goldey Beacom College and upon graduation, furthered his education at Wharton School of Finance in Philadelphia. Thomas was a Finance Officer in the 8th Air Force, serving in England for three years. Thomas is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marie (Ott) Garbutt of Milford; one daughter, Gail Garbutt of Bethany Beach; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services and burial will be private, with a memorial service to be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Garbutt Charitable Trust Fund, which had been established to meet community needs, c/o Law Offices of Ellis & Szabo, P.O. Box 574, Georgetown, DE 19947. Arrangements handled by Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford.
