Stuart Edward Cole, 88
WILMINGTON - Stuart Edward Cole of Wilmington died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, in Christiana Care-Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 88.
Mr. Cole was born Aug. 21, 1918, in Wyandotte, Mich., son of the late Hugh Ingersoll and Agnes Clara (Navarre) Cole. He spent most his life in Michigan and lived in Delaware for the last five years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in Italy.
Mr. Cole was superintendent and manager of the Ore Docks for Great Lakes Steel, a division of the National Steel Corp., Del Ray, Mich., for 40 years.
He was noted for his love of life and family, especially his loving wife of 50 years, Olive. He traveled to see his family every chance he got, enjoying all the special family occasions. He was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling and baking cookies (he was known by many as the "cookie man"), and was involved in many activities. He was always a gentleman.
Mr. Cole was a member of the Wyandotte Model Train Club and the AMVETS, and an active member of the First Congregational Church of Wyandotte. He was also a member of the Royal Order of Jesters 28 in Detroit and the Scottish Rite Valley of Detroit, where he earned the Meritorious Service Award. He was a member of the York Rite Masons in Detroit, and also a member of many clubs including the Down River Shrine Club and the High Noon Masonic Club. He was a member of the Trenton/Wyandotte Lodge 8 F. & A.M. for 55 years, and Dover"s Union Lodge 7 A.F. & A.M.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Olive (Ohs) Cole.
He is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Norman Edward and Janet Cole of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and S. Curtis and Theresa Cole of Camden; a daughter and a son-in-law, Ellen Louise and James DeMunnik of Chesterfield, Mich.; five granddaughters, Michele Marinucci of Camden, Karianne Fallow of Eagle, Idaho, Kathryn Cole of Houston, Texas, Kirsten Capeless of Magnolia and Megan Knight of Boise, Idaho; and four great-grandchildren, Valerie Capeless, Mason Capeless, Nick Marinucci and Chris Marinucci.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Masonic Home, 4800 Lancaster Pike, Wilmington, DE 19807.
