HARRINGTON - Stephen Holden, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2009, in Bayhealth Medical Center, Kent General, Dover, surrounded by his family. He was 68. He was born Jan. 13, 1941, to the late William and Mary McClory Holden. Mr. Holden was an army veteran who served during peace time. He graduated from Cottonville High School in Staten Island, N.Y. Mr. Holden retired from Rand Whitney, now Color Box, in Harrington as a traffic manager after 27 years. Mr. Holden was a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge and a past vice commander in the American Legion. He could always be counted to do what needed to be done within the American Legion. Mr. Holden enjoyed camping and was very involved with the American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren since he was a child himself. Mr. Holden was a loving husband, great father and will be missed by all. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, David and John "JB" Holden; and a sister, Mary Holden. He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Holden of Harrington; sons, Joseph Barclay of Harrington, James E. Barclay of Cocoa, Fla., and Richard P. Barclay of Butler, Mo.; daughter, Margaret LaMantia of Staten Island, N.Y.; granddaughter, who he raised, Heather Barclay of Harrington; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, William Holden of Tom's River, N.J., Gerard Holden of Felton, and Christopher Holden; sisters, Patricia Meadcroft of Staten Island, N.Y., and Regenia Collins of Harrington; and many nephews and nieces. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Melvin Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2009. Burial will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro. Arrangements are by the Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington.
