SLAUGHTER NECK - Sarah E. Green, of Slaughter Neck, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, in the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. She was 87. Mrs. Green was the directory of the Slaughter Neck Cheer Center for fourteen years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Slaughter Neck, where she was a Stewardess, Usher, a member of the United Methodist Women, and the Evangrelism Committee. Mrs. Green was also a member of the National Council of Negro Women for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Richardson and Henrietta Winstead; two brothers, Amos and Maxwell Hazzard; and one stepson Charles Green Jr. She is survived by her children, Gladys Barnett and Kathryn Anderson (James) of West Chester, Pa., Marie Loper of Slaughter Neck, Thomas Green of New Castle, Patricia Williams of Slaughter Neck, and Valerie Trott (Nathaniel) of Dover; one stepdaughter, Eunice McCoy of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters, Virginia Hearne (Monroe) of Dover, and Malinda Horne of Slaughter Neck; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Slaughter Neck, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. Burial will be in Old Hickory Cemetery, Slaughter Neck. Arrangements are being handled by Young and McPherson Funeral Home, Milford.
