LEWES - Sandra Michelle Carino "Sandy" passed away Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 at Milford Hospice Center after a long and courageous battle with gallbladder cancer.
Sandy was born May 29, 1966 in Dover to Charles Edward Smith, Jr. and Teresa Abbate.
She grew up in Hartly and was a waitress at Hollywood Diner for many years, and continued working while raising her family. She started off as a housekeeper at Westminster Village and worked her way up to a supervisor in housekeeping. She worked at Atlantic shores as the director of environmental services before being promoted to an account manager at Chestertown Hospital. Sandy enjoyed watching NASCAR especially Jimmy Johnson and the Philadelphia Eagles. She was a very strong, outgoing independent women who took care of everyone else and was always there for others. Sandy loved to dance, and going to see Mike Hines and The Look. She also enjoyed photography. She loved her family and her chihuahuas more than anything.
Sandy is survived by her mother, Teresa Brown of Lewes; father, Charles Smith, Jr. (Eileen) of Farmington; daughters, Shannon Heffelmire of Dover and Amber Griewahn (William) of Harrington; brothers, Charles Robbinson of Dover, Shawn Smith (Britney) of Farmington, Michael Smith (fiancé, Shannon) of Dover; grandchildren, Italia, Amiah, A'Rhianna, Krysta, Aliyah and Jordan; her fiancé, Geoffrey Shevock of Lewes; her longtime friend, Tim Debussy of Harrington; and her beloved Chihuahuas, Chico, Khloey and Gizmo.
Memorial services will be held 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior.
