CHESWOLD - Samuel C. Knotts, Jr, passed away peacefully surrounded by his Children on Wednesday, Feb. 11th at his home. He was a life member of the Cheswold Volunteer Fire Dept., where he held the Office of Vice President for 10 years, he also held the following offices, Secretary, Ambulance Chief, Assistant Ambulance just to name a few. The Fire Department was a priority in his life, which he enjoyed helping anyone in need. He also was a member of the Townsend Fire Company, Townsend, DE and Cecilton Fire Company, Cecilton, Md. He had over 70 years of Volunteer Fire Service. His children are very proud of this accomplishment. Sam was raised on the family farm and farming was dear to his heart. He enjoyed good conversation about farming among family and friends. In his spare time he enjoyed playing Country Music on his guitar and watching his favorite baseball team the Baltimore Orioles. He retired from Kent County, Delaware as a Building Inspector. He also retired from Tyler Refrigeration in Smyrna. He was also a Cub Master for the Boy Scouts of the MOT area for several years. He also served as President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary of the Delaware Federation of Democratic Club. Upon retiring Sam moved to Ocala, Fla. however he quickly decided that the "Hot Weather" wasn't for him and he moved back to Dover. He enjoyed working in his shed where he crafted many wooden items form Airplanes, Bird Houses, Rockets, Furniture and always stamped them with Sam's Woodworking Crafts. He also enjoyed planting and maintaining a vegetable /Flower Garden Sam was predeceased by his sisters, Thelma Rhodes, Mary Ellen Alexander, Vera Lee Burger; and brotherS, Harold Knotts and Russell Knotts. He is survived by his daughters, Fay Knotts of Dover and Kay Murray (Dell) of Titusville, Fla.; son, S. Carter Knotts, III (Cheryle) of Dover; seven grandchildren, Mike, Janice, Traci, Holly, David, Chad and Carleigh; eight great-grandchildren, Meagan, Morgan, Michael, Danny, Dillon and Victoria, Henry and Kaylee; one great-great–grandchild, DJ. Sam is also survived by a brother-in-law, Andy Burger of Townsend; and a sister-in-law, Francis Knotts of Smyrna. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at 1 pm at the Cheswold Volunteer Fire Company, 371 Main Street, Cheswold, DE 19936. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11 am to 1 pm at the Fire Company. Interment with Firemen's Honors will follow at Townsend Cemetery.
